Wedding Progress

So the invitations took a bit longer then we expected.  The invites are all printed, however I still have to spend some good quality time at staples doing the cutting.  Will likely go get all the brown cards cut in half tomorrow.  We finally found a color sceam that I liked that printed correctly.  Once the cards are all cut then it will be time to start adding the details.  We are going to put a ribbon on the card that is going to be sealed with wax.  We have yet to find the color of wax we want for a reasonable price.  But once we find the color and get that order will then pull the cards all together with their envelopes so we can put them aside until we have our guest list finalized.

We have also been looking at save the date cards, we decided we will do a post card.  This way it doesn’t require an envelope.  We have it all designed however haven’t finalized on the printer.  If the placed would only enable a sample to be printed before we order the bulk order.

Wedding favors have been put on the back burner.  I have come up with a couple of ideas of jars/cans but I can’t decide so Tena and I have talked about getting together some long weekend.  So may wait until that happens so I can get her option.

The cake maker has been tested and provided the deposit.  Now I have to decide on the design and the type of cakes to be used.

We decided to use sandpiperstudios.com.  This is the same company Kev’s friend Angela used for her wedding and really liked his prints.

At some point Kev and I have to create our wedding ceremony, determine what is been sung/played.

So things are coming together.  Everything that needs to be booked are booked, now just need to finalize on the details.

Invitations

Now that the location and the coordinator is decided, we have been looking at different invitation.  These are two that we came across that we kinda liked.

We really liked the Brown Pocket Fold one and looking at the price for the preprinted one we decided to see what it would cost to make it ourselves.  Well, that was a great idea until it came down to getting the actually pocketfold part of the invitation.  Apparently only a couple of companies make it so there is no competition so the cheapest we found as $33.00 for 25 in USD.  Well if we consider this does not include the cards that contain the details of the affair we calculate it would cost about $450 for about 75 invites.

Then we came across the Red Fold. This one is not in the color we are looking to have but the idea itself since we are thinking of creating the invites ourself.   This one appears to be quite simple to make, basically one long sheet of paper is the base and 3 short cards for the little cards.

In making these from construction paper we found that if we combine the two, take the red fold design however fold the top part down over the little cards we create a nice like folded card.  We just need to shorten the invitation section a bit so it doesn’t go the full length of the card instead stops where little cards start.

Now that the design has been decided it was off to colors.  We are going with chocolate brown as our main colors.  Since it is kinda a fall wedding was thinking the fall colors would go really nicely with the brown.  So I have been picking up variety of different red, orange, yellow construction paper to see if could find the color scheme that I was looking for.   In doing so I picked up a couple shades for browns should I not find the fall colors that I liked.  So I made up some demos of a couple different colors and sent it to the girls(sisters) to see what they though.  Of course they picked opposite color schemes.   On one of my last attempts to find the colors I was looking for I found them by accident.  I was heading to the paper place and missed my stop and when I realized it I was at the art supply place.  It was here that I found the colors.  It was really color because the paper was two tones.  The base color on one side and the rich version on the opposite.  I was happy with both colors.  So the fall colors won the color scheme.

With the red and the brown was thinking it would look very clean if we printed right on the colors instead of printing on white then attaching the white.  Then came the idea of printing with white ink on the colored papers.  Great idea by not possible.  The way you get white lettering is to start with the white paper and print around the letters.  After scouting a couple of places it appears Staples is the cheapest.  It is based on clicks not the amount of ink required.

Kev started creating the template for the invites and obtain the colors directly off the manufacturer of that paper I like so the colors should match.  After some measurements the templates with the colors are all done.  Kev managed to get the map created as well however he did the lines in black with the cities names in white.  I am not sure if the black will show up since it is going to the red card.  So we are going to finish the verbage the best we can give the information we have so far and get a test print done.  From there we can see what needs to be modified before actually ordering all the prints.  So we should be done of the demo printing early this week.  Once we have everything on the cards and the way we want them done we can order then at any point in time.  Since it is hand made I sence spending a bunch of time at staples with the paper cutter.

Slowly moving along

So we are now at the point that we are waiting for our contact from the wedding coordinator.  We decided to use Caseley’s to take care of our joyous day.  From what we can tell they seem to be very flexible with stuff which is good since we don’t necessary want they default package.

So the date of September 11, 2010 is reserved for us at the Park Corner location.  We not going to use their minister, we initially wanted Grammy Millman Minister to do the service since we already met him and he was really cool.  We don’t want a stuffy ceremony more a relaxed one.   Unfortunatly, he will be out of the country so he gave us the contact information for his replacement.  We are going to see what Aunt Viv thinks of him.

Not much futher along!!

I have been continuing to email Caseley’s and PeiWeddings.com and haven’t made any decision as of yet.   Dad and Mom were down taking pictures at Argle Twin Cottages yesterday.  The location is not open yet so still needs to be cleaned up but doesn’t look like a bad place.  I did notice however that there is  more cottages next to them which I didn’t expect.    That opens up the noise situation of the dance.  We have already received the permission from the Two Cottages but not sure if we need to get the permission of the next door neighbours.  That is if they are still there after labour day.

I inquired with PeiWeddings about their caterer referrals.  She referred me to Sizzler’s which I already was in communications with.   I was glad to hear that that means PeiWeddings must have worked with them before.  Sizzler’s has more of the food we want.   We want a more casual wedding and don’t really want the three course meal.

While out taking pictures yesterday for us,  mom and dad came across another location in Stan Hope.  It was just a really pretty location so checked out there site and sent them an email.    One of their managers forwarded it on to their Director of Sales.  I sent this on Saturday so will like get something back beginning of next week.

Starting to get quotes

Well we have been website searching for possible wedding packages and locations. Two we came across that are similar in price is caseleys.com and peiweddings.com. Each has plus/minuses. Caseley’s appears to have the act together more but peiweddings breaks everything down so you pick what options you want and only what you want. Caseley’s is can be customized, Anything we want to do our self they will just take that out of the quote.

Also inquired into the Argyle Shore Twin Cottages rentargyle.com. Their site says Saturday to Saturday however since we getting married after labour day they are willing to do a Wednesday to Wednesday or Saturday. Now we are just waiting on if they will permit the wedding on the lot.

A photobooth is a grand idea

Browsing around I found another person who pulled off a reception idea I’d like to try.   Rather than putting all those little camera’s on everyones table I’d love to find an photo booth – I can’t really say it any better than Cabel did so I will just quote him:

A quick wedding recommendation: for some really fantastic, non-cheesy photographic memories of your guests, look for a local distributor of good old fashioned photo booths. None of this fancy-pants digital stuff — we’re talking a green, incandescent bulb that says “smile”, little strips of paper sent by an ancient motor into various vats of chemicals, dropped into your hands still wet, a cool little honeycomb texture running through the paper and an ever-so-slight sepia tone. These are the real memories, four classic frames at a time.

I really like the pixel art on the save the date email as well, not sure if the bride will be as big on it though :)

What we have so far…

So it’s now been three months since the bride to be said yes, in that three months what have we accomplished?  Well she has found and purchased her wedding dress from David’s Bridal.  We decided to have a small wedding party which is made up both of our sisters and two friends that I consider brothers.  The MC for the reception has been chosen.  We have decided the wedding will take place on P.E.I (our home province), and we are strongly considering the date 09/11/2010 depending on what actual locations we can secure.

When we look ahead we realize how much work is really left, guestlists, locations, photographers, music, food, and countless other things – this blog is where we hope to bounce idea’s off everyone involved.

The Site Begins

So the bride and I figured it might be a good idea to start a little weblog to keep track of the various crazy idea’s we have had for our wedding. Eventually we’ll hand out accounts to the wedding party and a few others so they can contribute.

We are still looking for a good wordpress theme, if you have suggestions please let us know.  Over the next few days we’ll add more to the site and have it a  bit more functional.

So there we go, our wedding blog is officially open for viewing – let us know what you think :)
